Description:

Find out how high performance computers are increasingly needed for advanced research during a half-day series of presentations to be held at the STOKES Advanced Research Computing Center headquarters in the Central Florida Research Park next to campus.

The event is set for Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Partnership III Building, 3039 Technology Parkway. The event is open to faculty, students and the community at no charge, but an RSVP (thompson@ist.ucf.edu) is requested as space is limited.

Members of the statewide research computing alliance and high-speed communication networks, and UCF faculty users of the STOKES high-performance cluster housed in the research park will show how high performance systems help meet advanced research challenges. A presentation by special guest Dr. Daniel A. Reed, Vice President for Research and Economic Development and University Chair in Computational Science and Bioinformatics, Professor of Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Medicine at the University of Iowa, and an innovator in cloud computing, will highlight the event.

UCF’s own Advanced Research Computing Center (the STOKES ARCC) has become a valuable resource for faculty. The STOKES ARCC is linked to other Florida universities—and nationwide institutions—via Florida Lambda Rail and Internet2. Also, as a member of the Sunshine State Education & Research Computing Alliance (SSERCA), UCF cooperates with other advanced computing centers in the state university system.

More about this event, including additional information about speakers, is on the Institute for Simulation & Training Website (www.ist.ucf.edu/researchcomputingday.html).
