Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer delivered his annual State of the Downtown address to hundreds of downtown residents, business owners and community leaders, highlighting UCF Downtown as one of the key projects this year.

“We will not rest until this game-changing campus becomes a reality, benefiting our city and our entire region,” Dyer said.

Along with UCF Downtown, Dyer said the new PreK-8 school in Parramore will help increase educational opportunities for residents.

He also outlined several other projects the community is working on to “create an unstoppable second half as we continue our drive to be the best Downtown in the nation”:

  • Providing more affordable housing options for residents with the development of a mixed-income residential project in Parramore.
  • Enhancing parks and adding green space with the preservation of Constitution Green, plans for a park under Interstate 4 and launching the One Person, One Tree Initiative.
  • Tackling one of our community’s most complex challenges, chronic homelessness, through the Housing First model.
