Straight lines and sharp corners convey an identity that is confident, modern and built to last. Use square edges for containers, call-to-action buttons, image crops and graphic elements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-reading-width wp-block-paragraph\">Where curved lines are unavoidable \u2014 a third-party component, a physical form factor, a platform-enforced shape, etc. \u2014 keep them minimal and apply them consistently rather than decoratively.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">\n<h3 id=\"h-use-grids-for-layout\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"padding-top:0\">Use Grids for Layout<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-reading-width wp-block-paragraph\">Grid layouts establish a rational framework that maintains consistency and alignment while allowing for a variety of creative page design solutions. Grids also make scaling easier, as a layout built on structure adapts to a banner, a print ad or a screen without being redesigned from scratch.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">\n<h3 id=\"h-use-grids-for-layout\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"padding-top:0\"><strong>Stat Graphics Should Be Complete Statements<\/strong><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-reading-width wp-block-paragraph\">Present statistics, facts or rankings in your design as full statements that provide some detail. Do not show a large decorative number followed by small text to complete the stat or recognition. UCF\u2019s achievements are what audiences should see first, not a number without context. Ideally, also pair a supporting sentence with every stat to communicate the \u201cwhy,\u201d \u201chow\u201d or \u201cwhat for.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list is-style-reading-width\">\n<li>Example: Put the full phrase \u201cNo. 1 supplier of aerospace and defense talent\u201d in one cohesive format, instead of a large \u201cNo. 1\u201d followed by a small \u201csupplier of aerospace and defense talent.\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">\n<h3 id=\"h-use-grids-for-layout\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"padding-top:0\"><strong>Let Images and Copy Breathe<\/strong><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-reading-width wp-block-paragraph\">Use negative space intentionally in layout to direct audiences\u2019 attention. Keep headlines succinct but powerful, make copy scannable and avoid filling every open area with text. If content doesn&#8217;t fit comfortably, cut it rather than shrinking type or tightening margins. Long copy typically comes from jamming in too many points \u2014 keep content focused to keep audiences engaged.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">\n<h3 id=\"h-use-grids-for-layout\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"padding-top:0\"><strong>Limit Length of All-Caps Headlines<\/strong><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-reading-width wp-block-paragraph\">For the UCF brand, we prefer styling headlines in all capital letters. But a bold, all-caps headline can be very hard to read if it\u2019s too long \u2014 and likely takes up too much space in layout. Limit headlines to brief, powerful statements, ideally incorporating strong verbs or gerunds. There&#8217;s no hard rule to headline length, so use your best judgment to retain readability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">\n<h3 id=\"h-use-grids-for-layout\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30)\"><strong>Improve Content Flow With Clear Hierarchy<\/strong><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-reading-width wp-block-paragraph\">Create a hierarchical design, ranking the order of components\u2019 visual hierarchy from most to least important. The most crucial items should dominate the space, with remaining elements following in prominence.
