This message was sent as an email from UCF Police Department Lieutenant Christine Gigicos to students, faculty and staff at the Center for Emerging Media on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017.

Students, faculty and staff,

With the fall semester underway — and despite the uninvited visit from Hurricane Irma — safety and security remain a constant theme in conversations about future growth of UCF Downtown. The UCF Police Department and the Orlando Police Department have a strong history of partnership, which we continue to build on as the downtown campus takes shape and grows alongside the Center for Emerging Media.

In addition to the security personnel inside CEM, UCFPD Community Service Officers will patrol the parking lots and areas inside of the downtown campus. OPD continues to commit resources to patrol UCF’s spaces downtown, as well as the neighborhoods we are very much a part of.

You also should have seen the addition of the dedicated evening security patrol working from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. They are committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for you, no matter the hour. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and say “hello” to all of these dedicated professionals, who are there for you and to assist you with any questions or an escort to your vehicle.

Additional lighting is on the horizon, to be installed in the west end of Lot A to provide better visibility when walking to and from CEM.

As construction at UCF Downtown continues, we will continue evaluating and revising security measures for all of you who study and work there. You have an experienced and a very dedicated team who is committed to your safety.

I look forward to speaking with all UCF Downtown-affiliated departments about campus security, and, more importantly, about the exciting history we will all be a part of with UCF Downtown!

Go Knights!
