Canvs, a downtown-Orlando nonprofit coworking space for startup entrepreneurs, celebrated its\u00a0grand opening<\/a>\u00a0for a pilot coworking space and educational programs to support local entrepreneurs in Parramore.<\/p>\n

The new space is housed in\u00a0the University of Central Florida\u2019s\u00a0Center for Emerging Media, which will be part of the\u00a0UCF Downtown campus<\/a>\u00a0in the heart of Creative Village. The Canvs Parramore coworking pilot is made possible with a $50,000 award from the City of Orlando.<\/p>\n

Locating the pilot space at the new UCF Downtown campus in Creative Village \u201cwill help accelerate downtown Orlando\u2019s innovation ecosystem,\u201d said Thad Seymour, Jr., vice provost for UCF Downtown and chairman of Canvs\u2019 board of directors. \u201cWe are pleased to partner with the City of Orlando to support Parramore entrepreneurs as they build promising businesses that create jobs and opportunities for the community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Canvs\u00a0already is developing community outreach plans, securing mentors to guide founders and creating educational programs for the startup companies it expects to attract as coworkers. This same model was used successfully in its original 17,000-square-foot facility located in downtown Orlando\u2019s historic Church Street Exchange, as well as a second 8,000 square-foot office in Winter Park.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of the City\u2019s economic development strategy, we are\u00a0constantly\u00a0seeking ways\u00a0to\u00a0remove barriers for residents\u00a0who want\u00a0to pursue their dreams\u00a0of owning a business,\u201d said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. \u201cWe are proud to partner with\u00a0Canvs\u00a0on this new\u00a0location which furthers our efforts to continue revitalizing Parramore and\u00a0brings\u00a0affordable, innovative, coworking space\u00a0for startup entrepreneurs\u00a0to launch and grow new\u00a0businesses in the heart of the neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 900-square-foot coworking space will accommodate 15 desks and more than 40 coworkers who may rent desks for occasional or long-term use.<\/p>\n

Both non-tech and tech-based startups are expected to take advantage of this new coworking facility. Canvs also is home to the Starter Studio tech business accelerator, as well as FireSpring Fund, a nonprofit advanced accelerator and seed-stage investment fund.<\/p>\n
