From bowling to\u00a0Harry Potter<\/em>\u00a0studies, golf to wine tasting, UCF offers classes for all interests. Theatre students now get the chance to create stories using odd objects and puppets.<\/p>\n

Students taking Introduction to Puppetry and Object Theatre this fall with Ayelet Golan, a visiting professor with the Israel Institute\u2019s Visiting Artists Program, are doing just that.\u00a0Central Florida Hillel<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Judaic Studies\u00a0worked together to obtain the grant for the visiting artist. Only a few weeks into the semester, these students have already created stories using dolls, stuffed animals and their imaginations.<\/p>\n

Golan is a story in and of herself. Successful in her field, her art has been displayed all over the world. As a teacher for the past 10 years, Golan employs a \u201cvery curious eye\u201d to explore reality with her students. Her office hosts a display of these explorations and adventures: misplaced doll parts, foliage, trinkets and figurines adorn her walls and desk.<\/p>\n

Golan<\/strong>\u00a0is a theater director, puppeteer and performer whose work has been presented at festivals and venues across the globe, including Israel, Europe and the United States. She also has extensive experience as an acting coach, creative process facilitator and dramaturg.<\/p>\n

Golan has a talent for finding the curious in the world around her.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As evidenced by her collections, Golan has a talent for finding the curious in the world around her. Orlando gives her time to explore, stare and think, she says. She\u2019s amazed at the area\u2019s juxtaposition between rows of organized, well-done houses and dynamic, unpredictable environments.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s very refreshing, very different from Israel,\u201d she says. Golan has also been impressed by her students\u2019 thirst for knowledge. She\u2019s felt welcomed by the kind people in the community.<\/p>\n

As her students learn about contemporary puppetry, object theatre, visual languages and more, Golan hopes they see that the mistakes they make are the most important part in the creative process and in life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to\u00a0mistake<\/em>\u00a0with them,\u201d says Golan, \u201cTheatre is fun! If you want to find some good answers, first you need to celebrate your mistakes and acknowledge your stupidity.\u201d<\/p>\n

What can other UCF students learn from Golan\u2019s puppetry class? It\u2019s not only the traditional methods of singing puppets and stuffed animals. It\u2019s a point of view.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a way to put something else in front of you,\u201d she says. \u201cSound can be a puppet; the text can be a puppet. You want to make it vivid; you want to bring it to life. You give the text life through you.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
