UCF\u2019s second annual Three Minute Thesis<\/a> competition \u2013 at which 10 students present their research projects to a live audience \u2013 will be Wednesday in the Live Oak Center on the main campus.<\/p>\n

The contestants come from a broad range of disciplines, including sciences, medicine, engineering and security studies. They will have the opportunity to present the significance of their research using a single slide. A judge\u2019s panel will determine the winner and \u00a0runner-up, and a People\u2019s Choice Award will be chosen by the audience. A total of $2,000 in scholarship prizes is available.<\/p>\n

Judges will be: Cary D\u2019Ortona, president of Arnold Palmer Hospital; Chantel Carter, UCF\u2019s associate director for the Office of Student Involvement; Wendy Kurtz, founder and president of Elizabeth Charles & Associates, LLC; and UCF Police Chief Carl Metzger.<\/p>\n

The public is invited to attend the event 3-4:30 p.m. and see who does the best job of explaining their research. The audience also will have an opportunity to vote for the People\u2019s Choice Award. The event is cosponsored by the College of Graduate Studies, Blackstone LaunchPad and the Office of Research.<\/p>\n

3MT competitions are held in more than 600 universities and institutions in 65 countries. UCF winners may also have an opportunity to compete at regional and statewide 3MT competitions next spring.<\/p>\n

This past year\u2019s winner\u00a0presented about the future of medicine and the possibility of diagnosing diseases from human breath.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
