UCF\u2019s Timothy Letzring has joined the 77-member board of trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) as the only representative among Florida\u2019s State University System.<\/p>\n
Letzring serves as the senior associate provost for Academic Affairs and directs UCF\u2019s Academic Program Quality, Operational Excellence and Assessment Support, and UCF Global. SACSCOC oversees accreditation of about 800 public and private colleges and universities across 11 southern states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.<\/p>\n
The association works to ensure that institutions meet high standards for academic quality while striving for continuous improvement. The accreditation process is long, exhaustive \u2013 and impactful. Favorable results from SACSCOC are critical for an institution\u2019s academic vitality, financial stability and public reputation in attracting students, faculty and staff.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a tremendous honor and I am grateful for the confidence my peers have placed in me to serve in this capacity,\u201d said Letzring, who joined UCF in 2019 from Texas A&M University-Commerce. \u201cI look forward to joining the experienced board members in working with post-secondary institutions to support and enhance education in the southern region and our state.\u201d<\/p>\n
Letzring\u2019s role will include reviewing and making decisions about the accreditation of member institutions along with considering changes to commission standards.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
As a trustee, Letzring\u2019s role will include reviewing and making decisions about the accreditation of member institutions along with considering changes to commission standards. He is part of a Florida delegation to SACSCOC that represents 74 Florida institutions, ranging from state universities and state colleges to private schools of all sizes.<\/p>\n
His election to the commission\u2019s board carries a three-year term.<\/p>\n
Before joining UCF, Letzring was dean of the College of Education and Human Services at Texas A&M University-Commerce and a department chair at the University of Mississippi. He holds a doctorate in higher education, a law degree and a bachelor\u2019s degree in mathematics.<\/p>\n
