{"id":147978,"date":"2025-06-26T09:33:39","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T13:33:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=147978"},"modified":"2025-07-16T12:17:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T16:17:13","slug":"pegasus-partner-orlando-health-boosts-ucf-clinic-with-new-name-and-major-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/pegasus-partner-orlando-health-boosts-ucf-clinic-with-new-name-and-major-support\/","title":{"rendered":"Pegasus Partner Orlando Health Boosts UCF Clinic With New Name and Major Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>P<\/strong>egasus Partner Orlando Health continues to deepen its longstanding relationship with UCF through the newly renamed Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute Athletic Training Clinic at the UCF Recreation and Wellness Center (RWC).<\/p>\n<p>Through this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/partnerships\/\">enhanced partnership<\/a>, clinicians will continue to deliver exceptional care to UCF students \u2014 offering injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and preventive services \u2014 now bolstered by direct access to one of Central Florida\u2019s premier healthcare systems.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis collaboration ensures our students receive top-tier care from highly qualified athletic trainers.\u201d \u2014 Jim Wilkening, UCF RWC executive director<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The agreement also supports expanded staffing, upgraded equipment, enhanced programming and streamlined referral pathways for students requiring additional care. (Photo by Kristin Nurnberg)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAs the official medical provider for UCF Athletics, expanding our role to provide the same expert care to the entire student body was a logical step for us,\u201d says Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute sports medicine physician Fred Soliman, who also serves as a team physician for UCF. &nbsp;\u201cThrough this partnership, students will have easier access to high-level medical care at the RWC.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThrough this partnership, students will have easier access to high-level medical care at the RWC.\u201d \u2014 Fred Soliman, Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute sports medicine physician<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Since becoming one of UCF\u2019s first Pegasus Partners in 2023, Orlando Health has made significant contributions to the university, including support for the new Dr. Phillips Nursing Pavilion in Lake Nona, which will open this fall; student scholarships; and internships aimed at addressing Florida\u2019s nursing shortage.<\/p>\n<p>Orlando Health also recently partnered with a UCF <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/degree\/biomedical-engineering-ms\/\">biomedical engineer<\/a> and several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/degree-search\/bachelor\/college\/engineering-computer-science\/\">engineering<\/a> students on a pilot program that uses artificial intelligence and computer vision to track surgical staples in operating rooms. The AI software directs a camera to record each staple\u2019s use, enabling data analysis that improves efficiency and reduces costs. This technology has the potential to be applied to other surgical processes, such as tracking instrument usage during non-robotic procedures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom Pilates and rock climbing to open-water SCUBA, the RWC empowers students to stay active \u2014 and now, with enhanced support from Orlando Health, they can climb higher, swim deeper and run faster, with even greater confidence in
