A University of Central Florida industrial engineering professor has been named a fellow by one of the world\u2019s largest and most well-respected scientific societies.<\/p>\n

Charles H. Reilly is the sixth UCF College of Engineering and Computer Science<\/a> professor in two years to earn the American Association for the Advancement of Science\u2019s recognition for scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications.<\/p>\n

The AAAS is honoring Reilly for his important contributions to synthetic optimization and for leadership in industrial engineering education.<\/p>\n

Reilly is associate dean for Academic Affairs in UCF\u2019s College of Engineering and Computer Science. His research has focused on generating and solving mathematical problems that \u2013 if used by engineers who create process strategies for industries \u2013 ultimately help companies streamline their operations.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Reilly is a gifted educator, researcher and administrator, and is highly deserving of this honor,\u201d said Marwan Simaan, dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. \u201cHe is one of our leading faculty members in Industrial Engineering combining theory and practice in his research in a unique and outstanding way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reilly is also a fellow in the Institute of Industrial Engineers. He has earned several awards of excellence in his field and in teaching. He has authored many scientific journal articles and reports, and he is a frequent speaker at scientific and simulation<\/a> forums. He received both his master\u2019s and doctorate in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University. He earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in Mathematics and Business Administration from St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis.<\/p>\n

Reilly will be recognized Feb. 19 during the AAAS annual meeting in Washington, D.C. He also will be included in the AAAS News & Notes section of the journal Science on Jan. 28.<\/p>\n

The American Association for the Advancement of Science<\/a> is the world\u2019s largest general scientific society, and publisher of the journal Science<\/em> as well as Science Translational Medicine<\/em> and Science Signaling<\/em>.
