<\/div>\n

Learn how to stay safe in severe weather and to prepare for other disasters during free classes and events Tuesday at the University of Central Florida.<\/p>\n

UCF is teaming up with Orange County\u2019s Office of Emergency Management to host a series of disaster preparedness activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at its East Orlando campus. The program is part of a statewide Severe Weather Awareness Week, which runs through Friday.<\/p>\n

Emergency management professionals from throughout Central Florida will be in the Student Union\u2019s Pegasus Ballroom. Visitors can see some of the equipment used to help keep Central Floridians safe and learn more about what they can do to prepare for severe weather.<\/p>\n

Chief Meteorologist Jeff Day from Central Florida News 13 will talk about severe weather and answer questions.<\/p>\n

The event and activities are free and open to the public. Participants will receive free weather radios and disaster kits while supplies last.<\/p>\n

Classes will cover everything from what to do in an active shooter situation to how to build a disaster kit.<\/p>\n

Participating organizations include the UCF and Orange County emergency management offices, the Florida Division of Forestry, UCF Police, Orange County Fire Rescue and the Orange County Health Department.<\/p>\n
