The free app \u2013 available in Apple\u2019s iTunes App Store and at https:\/\/www.chronicle.com\/ \u2013 preserves the elegant look-and-feel of the print publication, and adds interactive audio, video, and slideshows to supplement The Chronicle\u2019s signature mix of reporting and commentary.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be able to show off our award-winning journalism and design in an entirely new medium,\u201d said Jeff Selingo, The Chronicle\u2019s editor. \u201cThe iPad\u2019s interactive features help bring our stories to life in totally new ways.\u201d<\/p>\n

Unlike some other publications, issues of The Chronicle on the iPad can be downloaded free by subscribers. \u201cWe want our readers to engage and interact with our content wherever they are, and in whatever format best suits them,\u201d Selingo said. \u201cWe see free iPad downloads as just another benefit of subscribing.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to the weekly issues, readers can also get breaking news, updated throughout the day and delivered seamlessly to the app\u2019s News Feed section. The app\u2019s Newsstand feature will also allow subscribers to build a virtual archive of The Chronicle right on their iPads. And non-subscribers can purchase individual issues of The Chronicle and The Chronicle Review, the newspaper\u2019s weekly magazine of ideas.<\/p>\n

The inaugural sponsor of The Chronicle\u2019s iPad edition is the University of Central Florida<\/a>. Future sponsors and in-app advertisers include Texas Tech and Northeastern universities.<\/p>\n
