Five Rosen College students diligently worked behind the scenes to produce the delicious Festival of Chocolate, held March 5 and 6 at the Orlando Science Center.\u00a0 Interning under the guidance of Aileen Mand, students Kacie Doran, Karen Kutta, Courtney Lillig, Shelby Shankin, and Beth Worman delivered the region\u2019s premier chocolate event.<\/p>\n

The event featured tastings and sales of gourmet chocolate delights, a \u201cKids-4-Chocolate\u201d creative workshop, demonstrations by award-winning pastry chefs, an educational chocolate museum, a \u201cBest of\u201d Chocolate Indulgence competition and more.<\/p>\n

Event Management senior, Beth Worman, has worked two semesters with the Festival and enjoys being involved in multiple aspects of the event.\u00a0 \u201cThe Festival of Chocolate is an incredibly unique, amazing event.\u00a0 It\u2019s delicious and fun\u2014there is never a dull moment.\u00a0 Cupcakes, cookies, brownies and ice cream all come with the job.\u00a0 Anyone would be crazy to turn it down,\u201d shares Worman.<\/p>\n

She credits her mentor and event producer, Aileen Mand, as a wealth of knowledge.\u00a0 Mand, the owner of Indigo Creative Productions, has produced large-scale events including Super Bowls, X-Games and Olympics.\u00a0 \u201cI remember when I was an intern learning about the events industry,\u201d she shares. \u201c It opened up a world to me that I didn\u2019t realize existed.\u00a0 Someone gave me a chance, and I tell the students \u2018let me work you to the bone and learn everything you can.\u2019\u00a0 I\u2019m creating professionals who will love what they do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mand encouraged the interns to create goals, exceed expectations, and to find words and concepts that flipped their switch.\u00a0 Kacie Doran, for example, discovered an initiative from an Ohio library featuring chocolate covered fairy tales.\u00a0 She partnered with the UCF Film Department and produced this promo video<\/a> announcing the film competition.\u00a0 Mand shares, \u201cKacie’s name is now listed as an executive producer on a film \u2013 that\u2019s impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Worman also credits Rosen College for her success with the project.\u00a0 \u201cThe classes I have taken helped me have the knowledge necessary to go into the hospitality and event world and think to myself \u2018I can do this\u2019 or \u2018I can solve this problem, this is something in learned in Professor Bunn\u2019s class\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
