“We are extremely excited about adding Mike to our program,” said Jones, who recently concluded his first campaign at UCF. “He has a great skill level. Mike is a big man who can score in the post, run the floor and rebound. He has a huge upside with his abilities.”<\/p>\n
Chandler is ranked as the No. 4 center in the country, and the 47th-best overall senior by Rivals.com. He is also at the top of the ESPN (No. 5 center, No. 42 overall) and Scout.com (No. 10 center) national rankings.<\/p>\n
As a senior at Lawrence North, where he played for coach Jack Keefer, Chandler averaged 19.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 2.0 assists per game. He earned Indiana Basketball Coaches Association All-State First Team honors and a spot on the Indianapolis Star Super Team. Chandler was selected to play in the North\/South Indiana All-Star Game and the Eric Gordon Shootout all-star game.<\/p>\n
Chandler averaged 14.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks as a junior. After the 2009-10 campaign, he was named to the IBCA All-State Third Team and received all-state honorable mention recognition from the Associated Press. Chandler was also named to the Indianapolis Star Indiana Junior All-Star Team.<\/p>\n
In the summer of the 2010, Chandler was invited to attend the USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team Training Camp, and participated in the adidas Nations camp in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n
Chandler will join a UCF program that enjoyed great success during Jones’ first season in Orlando. The Knights won 21 games to post just the sixth 20-victory season since the school moved to the Division I level in 1984. UCF recorded impressive non-conference victories over 16th-ranked Florida, Miami, Princeton and USF, topped Conference USA leaders UTEP and Southern Miss, entered the national rankings for the first time in program history and participated in the postseason where it claimed two games in the CBI.<\/p>\n
