{"id":23326,"date":"2011-04-26T06:54:14","date_gmt":"2011-04-26T10:54:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=23326"},"modified":"2018-07-02T11:27:41","modified_gmt":"2018-07-02T15:27:41","slug":"disney-imagineering-legend-to-speak-at-ucf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/disney-imagineering-legend-to-speak-at-ucf\/","title":{"rendered":"Disney Imagineering Legend Shares Unique Stories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Marty Sklar, Disney Legend and former head of Walt Disney Imagineering, hosted a lecture and Q&amp;A session at the UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management on Friday, May 13, 2011 and shared his unique experiences with the public.<\/p>\n<p>Sklar served as a Disney cast member for 55 years and stood as a dedicated torchbearer of Walt Disney\u2019s philosophy since first joining the company a month before Disneyland opened in 1955.<\/p>\n<p>The speaking engagement was hosted by the College\u2019s Future Theme Park Leaders Association (FTPLA) student organization.\u00a0 Admission was $15 for students and $25 for general public and all net proceeds were equally divided between the<a href=\"https:\/\/rymanarts.org\/\">Ryman Arts Foundation<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gktw.org\/\">Give Kids the World<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The event began at 4:00 p.m. in the college\u2019s Darden Auditorium and\u00a0 guests enjoyed a networking mixer in the Rosen College courtyard immediately following Sklar\u2019s presentation.<\/p>\n<p>Interested parties were also encouraged to bid on an <a href=\"https:\/\/pages.ebay.com\/messages\/page_not_found.html\">eBay auction<\/a> for a \u201cDinner and Story Time with Marty Sklar\u201d private event held at the Oceanaire Seafood Room on International Drive at Pointe Orlando.\u00a0 This once-in-a-lifetime experience included dinner, beverage service and a seat at the table with Mr. Sklar with an opening bid of $150.<\/p>\n<p>The Future Theme Park Leaders Association is exclusive to UCF\u2019s Rosen College of Hospitality Management.\u00a0 Through meetings, site visits, guest speakers and networking trips, FTPLA strives to connect student members with professionals in all aspects of the industry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Marty Sklar, Disney Legend and former head of Walt Disney Imagineering, hosted a lecture and Q&amp;A session at the UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management on Friday, May 13, 2011 and shared his unique experiences with the public.
