Katie Detlefsen, who concluded her career with the\u00a0UCF women\u2019s golf program this spring, was honored with a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America At-Large First Team. Detlefsen recently earned her master\u2019s degree in mass communications and had a 4.0 grade point average.<\/p>\n
The Academic All-America honor is the second for Detlefsen, who is from Eagan, Minn. Last year, she was named to the At-Large Third Team.<\/p>\n
Student-athletes from 13 different women’s sports – bowling, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo \u2013 are eligible for the Academic All-America At-Large Teams. Detlefsen was one of three golfers on the first team.<\/p>\n
Detlefsen has frequently been honored for her achievements both on and off the course. In May, she was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Three At-Large Team for the second-straight year.<\/p>\n
A month earlier, Detlefsen earned a spot on the Conference USA Women’s Golf All-Academic Team for the third-straight year. Detlefsen was also named to the 2010-11 C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll and garnered the league’s academic medal.<\/p>\n
A year ago, she became UCF’s first women’s golf Academic All-America selection. She was the 2010 recipient of the LPGA’s Dinah Shore Award, a prestigious national honor given to the collegiate golfer who best exemplifies success on the course, in the classroom and in the community.<\/p>\n
As a senior this past year, she played in all 11 of UCF’s events for head coach Courtney Trimble, with her best finish being an 11th-place showing at the Labor Day Shootout. Her low round of the year was a 70 (-2) in the opening round of the College of Charleston’s Cougar Classic.<\/p>\n
