Making Diabetes Visible, a 6 p.m. event that is open to the public, will feature former Miss America Nicole Johnson as the keynote speaker. Johnson has raised more than $26 million for diabetes research and programs during the past 12 years.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the \u201cGo Blue for a Cure\u201d event is to educate the UCF community about the warning signs of diabetes and how being diabetic can effect someone\u2019s life. There will be many activities and resources available at the event to raise awareness about all types of diabetes.<\/p>\n

  • The UCF Pharmacy will give free blood glucose tests.<\/li>\n
  • Dr. Richard Pratley, a senior scientist from Florida Hospital\u2019s Diabetes Institute and the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, will discuss his research.<\/li>\n
  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation representatives will educate students about the services and resources they provide.<\/li>\n
  • The Type 1 student organization will perform a humorous skit about the adversity students living with diabetes face daily.<\/li>\n
  • Attendees can enjoy sugar-free treats and giveaways<\/li>\n

    Type 1 is a student organization and support group at UCF that helps students enjoy college and stay healthy. The group participates in monthly meetings where members learn about various topics related to diabetes while sharing their own experiences. Students learn new tools and information so they can succeed while experiencing new situations in college.<\/p>\n
