The UCF College of Medicine\u2019s Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences is presenting \u201cOverview of the VA Research Program\u201d on Wednesday, November 30, from noon to 1 p.m. in room 103 of the Burnett Biomedical Sciences building.<\/p>\n
The presentation will be given by Dr. Kenneth C. Goldberg, chief of staff at the Orlando VA Medical Center. On the main UCF campus, a video-simulcast of Dr. Goldberg\u2019s presentation will be broadcast in room 136 of the Biomedical Sciences building (BMS).<\/p>\n
Dr. Goldberg will discuss the background of the VA research program, areas of current emphasis, funding mechanisms and the implications for Orlando. In his position, Dr. Goldberg oversees the care of Central Florida veterans while playing a critical role in the planning for the Orlando VA Medical Center at medical city in Lake Nona. The center is scheduled to be completed in 2012.<\/p>\n
Central Florida is home to nearly 400,000 veterans, 90,000 of whom are seen every year at the current Orlando VA Medical Center. As a neighbor of the College of Medicine, the new center will be a resource for patient care and research in a state-of-the-art medical environment.<\/p>\n
Dr. Annette Khaled, associate professor at the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, said the College of Medicine\u2019s partnership with VA clinicians highlights the importance of research, and benefits scientists, students and the Central Florida economy.<\/p>\n
