{"id":35998,"date":"2012-05-01T11:10:19","date_gmt":"2012-05-01T15:10:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=35998"},"modified":"2019-06-05T10:48:46","modified_gmt":"2019-06-05T14:48:46","slug":"capstone-winners-propose-new-way-to-shop-at-target","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/capstone-winners-propose-new-way-to-shop-at-target\/","title":{"rendered":"Capstone Winners Propose New Way to Shop at Target"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A team of four students won the annual\u00a0<em>Great Capstone Case Competition<\/em>\u00a0by proposing a plan that incorporates \u201cpersonal scanner systems\u201d into city Target stores.<\/p>\n<p>Team members\u00a0<strong>Yevgenia Borodkina<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jessica Machecek<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Paolo Clerici<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Jessica Werner<\/strong>\u00a0devised a strategy that requires customers to use scanners to purchase merchandise. According to the team, the scan system allows Target stores to offer its customers &#8220;the same great experience in a store half the size of a suburban Target.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The store would be divided into three areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Scan and deliver<\/em>: This area would have a virtual display of the products like bicycles, televisions, furniture and other bulky items that would be difficult for a customer in the city to carry home. Once a customer scans an item from this category and pays, the item would be delivered to their home.<\/li>\n<li><em>Scan and take<\/em>: This area would have a virtual display as well and would include necessities like groceries, movies and books. Once a customer scans these items a target team member would pack their items up and the package would be waiting for them once they are ready to leave.<\/li>\n<li><em>Physical scan<\/em>: The physical scan department would include things like beauty, baby products and cleaning supplies. These would be items that a customer would want to interact with prior to purchasing. Customers would scan these items and then place then in their cart.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The team, led by instructor\u00a0<strong>Regina Taylor<\/strong>, won a $4,000 scholarship. The event was sponsored by Target Corporation to help undergraduate students strengthen their analytic, communication, presentation and teamwork skills beyond the classroom by developing recommendations for real-world business issues.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Great Capstone Case Competition<\/em>\u00a0is held at the end of each semester. At the end of the fall semester, the winning team, known as \u201cTeam Assimilate,\u201d researched Tesla Motors, a young and innovative sport electric vehicle automaker from California. Team members\u00a0<strong>Matt Ferratusco<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Tanesh Misir<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Triet Leminh<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Brandon Seelig<\/strong>\u00a0designed a strategy for the company to enter the auto racing industry by racing in the American Le Mans Series and developed a plan that would improve perceptions about electric vehicles and gain better market share.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A team of four students won the annual\u00a0Great Capstone Case Competition\u00a0by proposing a plan that incorporates \u201cpersonal scanner systems\u201d into city Target stores.
