Indian author and scholar Anupama Rao will speak Thursday, Sept. 13, at the University of Central Florida.<\/p>\n
Rao will give a presentation entitled \u201cIndia and the Caste Question\u201d at 3 p.m. in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union. The event, organized by the UCF Global Perspectives Office, is part of the 2012-2013 theme of \u201cThe Changing Face of Freedom in Today\u2019s Turbulent Times.\u201d It is free and open to the public, and is also a featured event of The India Center at UCF.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rao\u2019s academic background is in anthropology and history, and she is an associate professor of South Asian history at Barnard College, Columbia University. She has served as president of the Society for the Advancement of the History of South Asia. Rao is working on a project titled Dalit Bombay, which focuses on the relationship between caste, political culture and everyday life in colonial and postcolonial Bombay.<\/p>\n
