The University of Central Florida\u2019s Project Spotlight will host its semi-annual One-Act Festival on Nov. 8-11 for students to have the chance to produce, act in, and direct one-act plays.<\/p>\n

Project Spotlight is an organization overseen by students, and the One-Act Festival gives those interested in participating in all facets of theatre the opportunity to present their talents through a series of short plays.<\/p>\n

For the first time, this fall\u2019s event will consist of plays all directed by MFA graduate students. Undergraduate students have directed in most previous festivals. The selection of plays includes Hidden in this Picture <\/em>by Aaron Sorkin, This Property is Condemned<\/em> by Tennessee Williams, and For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls<\/em> by Christopher Durang.<\/p>\n

Tara Kromer, director of For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls,<\/em> said her production is \u201cbig, silly, campy, and riotous fun compared to the more serious pieces being presented.\u201d The one-act is a comedic parody of Williams\u2019 The Glass Menagerie<\/em>. \u201cAt the end of the night, I just want the audience to have a really good time.<\/p>\n

The One-Act Festival will be at the Performing Arts Center Studio 1 at 7 p.m. Nov.\u00a0 8-10, and 2 p.m. Nov. 11.<\/p>\n

Roger J. Thatcher, president of Project Spotlight, said he likes being a part of the organization \u201cbecause it gives students an opportunity that isn’t available at most schools: total artistic control of a show. The best thing you can get out of college is experience, and OAF gives students this opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Theatre UCF is a program in the School of Performing Arts at the University of Central Florida. The department\u2019s graduate and undergraduate programs focus on providing a competitive edge to theatre artists seeking professional theatre careers, as well as to future creative intellectual leaders. The program offers theatrical presentations year-round to the public at the main Orlando campus.
