A University of Central Florida professor was awarded for his outstanding contribution to engineering during the 2013 Central Florida Engineers Week Awards Banquet.<\/p>\n
Sudipta Seal, an engineering professor and director of the Advanced Materials Processing and Analysis Center and Nanoscience Technology Center at UCF, was the recipient of the Technical Excellence award for Academia. Seal was among a select group of engineers, companies (both private and public) and projects who were nominated for this year\u2019s awards.<\/p>\n
National Engineers Week (E-Week) is celebrated at every college campus around the country in February to commemorate the birth of engineering. The highlight of the weeklong celebration is the Annual Awards Banquet. Held at the Orlando Wyndham Resort, the banquet\u2019s purpose is to recognize engineering excellence in the community and to promote engineering to the public and to future engineers.<\/p>\n
Seal is a top researcher and Distinguished Professor and Pegasus Professor at UCF. He holds a long list of accomplishments, including: a recipient of the 2002 Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award, selection as the Alexander Von Humboldt Fellow and recipient of the first Dean\u2019s Award for Faculty Excellence, Fellow of American Society of Materials (FASM), American Vacuum Society (FAVS), Institute of Nanotechnology (FIoN) and American Association of Advancement of Science (AAAS). He has served as NanoInitative Coordinator for the vice president of Research & Commercialization at UCF and has consistently excelled in research, instruction and service to the university since 1998.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am thrilled to be nominated and ultimately selected for this award,\u201d said Sudipta Seal.<\/p>\n
This year, Central Florida Engineers Week partnered with the Florida Engineering Foundation to promote engineering education through a scholarship donation to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) program for \u201cPromoting Engineering to Pre-College Students through STEM projects.\u201d<\/p>\n
Engineers Week is sponsored nationally by the National Engineers Week Foundation. Central Florida Engineers Week was sponsored in part by UCF\u2019s College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS).<\/p>\n
Additional nominees included: Steven Duranceau, associate engineering professor at UCF, and Karla Moore. George Gramatikas, \u201904, co-owner and founder, Turbine Technology Services (TTS), was a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award.<\/p>\n
