The University of Central Florida will donate more than 1,200 pieces of furniture to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando so that the nonprofit can raise funds to support its work of building housing for low-income families.<\/p>\n
Starting Friday, UCF will give 418 dressers, 418 desks and 418 bed frames used by students who lived in the Apollo residence hall to Habitat for Humanity.<\/p>\n
The furniture was originally valued at more than $355,000. New furniture will be added into Apollo communities this month, and the university determined that donating the used furniture was a great opportunity to contribute to the community, especially considering the high costs of moving, storing and processing the furniture for resale through UCF\u2019s surplus property program.<\/p>\n
UCF departments involved with the donation include Resource Management, Housing & Residence Life, Student Development and Enrollment Services, the Office of the Provost, the Division of Administration and Finance and the UCF Property Board.<\/p>\n
Habitat for Humanity will pick up the furniture from UCF so that it can be resold through the local ReStore sales outlets.
