Who would be more interested in preserving your family history than you?<\/p>\n

Gathering, writing and displaying that history \u2013 especially in our digital age\u00a0\u2013 will be the focus of three community workshops to be offered this summer by UCF\u2019s Public History Center.<\/p>\n

The classes, to be held at the center in Sanford, at 301 W. 7th St., include:<\/p>\n

  • Capturing Your Family on Film \u2013 Saturday, June 15, 9 to 11 a.m.<\/li>\n
  • Writing Your Family\u2019s History \u2013 Saturday, July 20, 10 a.m. to noon.<\/li>\n
  • Preserving Your Family History: Scrapbooking \u2013 Saturday, Aug. 17, 10 a.m. to noon.<\/li>\n

    To kick off the series, Barbara A. Gannon, an assistant professor of history at UCF, will talk about how to conduct oral-history interviews and provide an opportunity for sample interviewing.<\/p>\n

    Gannon has been involved with UCF\u2019s Community Veterans History Project helping collect oral histories of veterans. The group uses video cameras and digital recorders to preserve the stories of those who served in the military as far back as World War II.<\/p>\n

    The other workshops will focus on effective methods of telling your family\u2019s history through writing, and the methods of preserving your family history in both traditional and digital forms.<\/p>\n

    Participants are asked to RSVP ahead of time at publichistorycenter@ucf.edu<\/a>. The registration fee is $25 for each class, and can be paid by check or cash at the door at the beginning of each workshop.<\/p>\n

    The Public History Center is a partnership between the University of Central Florida and Seminole County Public Schools that seeks to bring the community together through public history.<\/p>\n
