The UCF community was invited recently to become a part of the legacy of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando.<\/p>\n
UCF students, faculty members and staff had the opportunity to make their own mark on the center by signing their names and messages on construction beams brought to the student union by Dr. Phillips Center representatives, as part of the Center\u2019s Building Arts for Every Life tour.<\/p>\n
The tour, which began earlier this summer, took 200-pound, 6-foot long construction beams to locations throughout Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Brevard, Volusia, Polk and Lake counties for people to sign. The beams will be returned to the center and become a permanent part of the building\u2019s structure.<\/p>\n
The tour celebrates the center\u2019s vision for the new arts center belonging to the entire Central Florida region.<\/p>\n
The center also is collaborating with UCF to offer performing arts students access to the center\u2019s theaters, to gain stage experience in a major performing arts venue.<\/p>\n
The UCF stop was the 25th location for the beam tour. Once it has concluded this fall, the tour will have traveled more than 800 miles and collected about 10,000 signatures.<\/p>\n
