Golfers will tee it up Monday, Oct. 7, at Winter Park\u2019s Interlachen Country Club to support graduate school fellowships for UCF biomedical students.<\/p>\n
The inaugural UCF Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences Golf Classic honors the legacy of the late Al and Nancy Burnett, preeminent supporters of UCF whose generosity created the College of Medicine\u2019s Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences. Money raised at the tournament will provide scholarships for master’s and Ph.D. students. These scientific leaders of tomorrow participate in cutting-edge research in cancer, cardiovascular, infectious and neurodegenerative diseases.<\/p>\n
\u201cAl and Nancy Burnett touched many lives through their generosity toward UCF,\u201d said President John C. Hitt, who will play in the tournament. \u201cTheir gifts created the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, a foundation for our new medical school in a thriving Medical City. It is an honor to participate in the inaugural golf tournament organized in their name. Through events like this, the Burnett family\u2019s generosity continues to impact thousands of students in our classrooms and research labs.\u201d<\/p>\n
The tournament begins with an 11 a.m. buffet lunch.\u00a0 Golfers begin play at 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start. Following the scramble tournament, golfers will enjoy an awards reception. Registration is $1,200 per foursome. Individual players also are welcome with a $300 registration. The first $50,000 raised will be matched by a grant from the Al & Nancy Burnett Charitable Foundation.<\/p>\n
