Knowing how to identify a suspicious situation and protect yourself from harm could be a life-saving tool in the event of an attack, and that\u2019s why UCF Police encourages women to dedicate a few hours to learning basic self-defense.<\/p>\n
S.A.F.E., short for Self-defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange, provides women with prevention tips, useful tactics and basic moves to defend themselves.<\/p>\n
Classes are taught monthly by UCF Police officers who have received training from the National Self-Defense Institute.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe teach women how to be better aware of their surroundings and go over five basic moves that could help save their lives,\u201d said Officer Pete Stephens, one of the course instructors.<\/p>\n
A class will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the UCF Police Department. Next month\u2019s class will be 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, March 17, at the Student Union.<\/p>\n
Classes cost $5, and they\u2019re open to students, faculty, staff and members of the public.<\/p>\n
