Rich Gause, UCF\u2019s government documents librarian, was appointed recently to the Federal Depository Library Council, which serves as an advisory committee to the Public Printer of the United States and the Superintendent of Documents. He was appointed as one of five new members by Davita Vance-Cooks, CEO of the Government Printing Office, the world\u2019s largest publisher.<\/p>\n
Gause is the first Florida member appointed to the 15-person committee since 1996. His three-year term begins June 1.<\/p>\n
Gause has been the government documents librarian for UCF Libraries since April 1998. Prior to coming to UCF, he was a public librarian for 12 years in the Orange County Library System and served five years in the Navy after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy. He received his Master of Library Information Science from Florida State University.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Public Printer could not have selected a more engaged or dedicated librarian from its list of nominees,\u201d said Penny Beile, UCF Libraries associate director for Research Information & Scholarly Communication. \u201cI cannot imagine anyone more deserving of this honor.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gause\u2019s dedication and expertise in promoting Government Printing Office materials makes him a go-to resource of students seeking research assistance at the John C. Hitt Library as well as colleagues throughout the state and nation. Throughout the years he has made presentations at professional-association conferences and recently has become active in producing webinars.<\/p>\n
The Depository Library Council is comprised of representatives from a cross-section of the federal depository libraries and takes on issues such as indexing and cataloging, administrative matters such as distribution, storage of depository collections, and policy recommendations.<\/p>\n
