{"id":66417,"date":"2015-05-15T09:51:25","date_gmt":"2015-05-15T13:51:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=66417"},"modified":"2024-01-22T11:08:55","modified_gmt":"2024-01-22T16:08:55","slug":"ucf-nanotech-jet-rocket-fuel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-nanotech-jet-rocket-fuel\/","title":{"rendered":"UCF Nanotech for Jet and Rocket Fuel Licensed to Spinoff Company"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A nanoparticle additive for jet and rocket fuels that was developed at UCF has been licensed to a company established by a former university researcher.<\/p>\n<p>Helicon Chemical Co., LLC, obtained exclusive rights to the technology that improves the dispersion and burning rates of solid fuel propellants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt makes them safer, more environmentally friendly and easier to use,\u201d said Sudipta Seal, director of the University of Central Florida\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ampac.ucf.edu\/\">Advanced Materials Processing and Analysis Center (AMPAC)<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nanoscience.ucf.edu\/\">NanoScience Technology Center<\/a> and Interim Chair of Materials Science and Engineering \u201cThis is a very high-impact agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Seal and his team invented the technology in collaboration with Dr. Eric Petersen, a former professor at UCF who is now at Texas A&amp;M University. Seal\u2019s team included David Reid, who at the time was a graduate student at AMPAC\/MSE. Reid went on to launch Helicon Chemical.<\/p>\n<p>The research was funded in part by contracts from the U.S. Department of Defense.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the latest licensing agreement facilitated by UCF\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/tt.research.ucf.edu\/\">Office of Technology Transfer<\/a> within the Office of Research and Commercialization, which manages the university\u2019s intellectual property assets and helps bring discoveries by faculty, staff and students to the marketplace.
