UPDATE: Wearing red wristbands last weekend to honor Freedom High School and FC America soccer player Breanna McMahon, the UCF women’s soccer team raised over $800 to support the McMahon family during its two home victories. The Knights would like to thank all of the fans that came out to the UCF Soccer Complex to support Breanna.<\/p>\n
“We are happy to be able to contribute to Breanna’s recovery fund,” said UCF head coach Amanda Cromwell. “It makes us proud that our fans came out not only to watch us play but help a local player that needs our help. The soccer community is very close and we are thrilled to help in any way we can, whether it is with monetary donations, the signed jersey or all of the encouragement we can provide. We hope Breanna will keep healing and keep fighting through the recovery process.”<\/p>\n
ORIGINAL STORY: The No. 16 UCF women’s soccer team will dedicate Friday’s home 7 p.m. match against UTEP to Freedom High School soccer player Breanna McMahon, who was seriously injured in late September in a fundraiser for her club team, FC America U-18 Kumba.<\/p>\n
McMahon was helping her team raise money by washing cars when a driver accidently stepped on the gas, pinning her against a wall. The injuries were so severe that her left leg had to be amputated and she is still listed in critical condition.<\/p>\n
A goalkeeper who attended a UCF camp in 2007, McMahon will be on the minds of all of the Knights as they wear red wristbands, the primary color of FC America.<\/p>\n
While admission is free, fans are encouraged to provide donations at the field to help the McMahon family. All proceeds will go into a trust account set up at Old Southern Bank.
