{"id":78028,"date":"2017-07-10T13:37:30","date_gmt":"2017-07-10T17:37:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=78028"},"modified":"2018-06-18T15:04:27","modified_gmt":"2018-06-18T19:04:27","slug":"ucf-training-to-help-health-care-providers-prevent-serious-substance-misuse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-training-to-help-health-care-providers-prevent-serious-substance-misuse\/","title":{"rendered":"UCF Training to Help Prevent Serious Substance Misuse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Licensed mental health professionals and other health care providers will have an opportunity to expand their knowledge base in August.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cohpa.ucf.edu\/socialwork\/\">School of Social Work<\/a> will host a Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment training from 1 to 4 p.m., August 11 at the <em>FAIRWINDS<\/em> Alumni Center. Participants must register by August 4.<\/p>\n<p>SBIRT is an approach to screening and recommending early intervention to help prevent serious substance misuse. Social workers and other health care professionals who use SBIRT can quickly assess a person\u2019s level of risk for substance abuse and take action.<\/p>\n<p>During the training, participants will learn about SBIRT through lectures, videos and handouts; practice the SBIRT screening for substance abuse; and apply the Motivational Interviewing-based counseling intervention.<\/p>\n<p>The training is funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, led by Principal Investigator Shawn Lawrence, Ph.D., LCSW, a member of the school\u2019s faculty.<\/p>\n<p>Register for the training at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/SBIRTUCF2017\">bit.ly\/SBIRTUCF2017<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>View the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cohpa.ucf.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/sbirt-training-at-ucf-flyer.pdf\">training\u00a0announcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For more information or questions, contact Coleen Cicale, SBIRT program coordinator, at <a href=\"mailto:coleen.cicale@ucf.edu\">coleen.cicale@ucf.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Licensed mental health professionals and other health care providers will have an opportunity to expand their knowledge base in August.
