LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council and widely accepted as the benchmark for buildings that are environmentally friendly and healthy for occupants. The LEED system awards bronze, silver, gold and platinum certifications to buildings based on a checklist of environmentally sensitive requirements and amenities.<\/p>\n
In 2007, UCF President John C. Hitt announced a policy requiring all new campus construction to meet at least the silver LEED rating.<\/p>\n
