{"id":96091,"date":"2019-04-10T13:05:09","date_gmt":"2019-04-10T17:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=96091"},"modified":"2019-04-11T08:20:25","modified_gmt":"2019-04-11T12:20:25","slug":"physical-therapy-doctoral-candidates-present-capstone-research-projects-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/physical-therapy-doctoral-candidates-present-capstone-research-projects-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Physical Therapy Doctoral Candidates to Present Capstone Research Projects to Community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thirty-six students in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/degree\/doctor-of-physical-therapy-dpt\/\">doctor of physical therapy program<\/a> will present their research-project findings Saturday to the community, one of the final steps before they earn their degrees.<\/p>\n<p>Among the topics: the impact of music on the mobility and balance of older adults with dementia, neuromuscular adaptions associated with knee injuries, the impact of modified ride cars for mobility for children during play, and the effects of a physical therapy technique on walking, balance and fear of falling in older adults.<\/p>\n<p>Requiring students to conduct a three-year research project enhances their education experience and may be one of the reasons why students have had a 100 percent passing rate on state and national licensing exams since 2010. UCF\u2019s program is among the top 15 nationally, according to the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy.<\/p>\n<p>The community is welcome to attend this free program. The 12-minute presentations will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 207 of the Classroom II building on the main campus. The students worked in groups of three on the projects, so a total of 12 presentations will be made. Light refreshments will be served<\/p>\n<p>Free continuing education units are available to local clinicians (four UCF-approved contact hours in accordance with FS
