{"id":96802,"date":"2019-05-09T10:17:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-09T14:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=96802"},"modified":"2022-07-28T19:11:17","modified_gmt":"2022-07-28T23:11:17","slug":"6-faculty-members-receive-national-science-foundation-career-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/6-faculty-members-receive-national-science-foundation-career-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"6 Faculty Members Receive National Science Foundation CAREER Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development program recently awarded six <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/faculty\/#our-people\">UCF faculty members CAREER grants.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The recipients represent some of the most promising early career scientists and engineers with high promise of leading major advances in their respective fields and who will serve as academic role models.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis is an exceptional year for some of our junior scientists and the number of NSF CAREER awards reflect that.\u201d \u2013 Debra Reinhart, associate vice president for the UCF Office of Research.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThis is an exceptional year for some of our junior scientists and the number of NSF CAREER awards reflect that,\u201d says Debra Reinhart, associate vice president for the UCF Office of Research. \u201cAt UCF, we encourage early career faculty to join us, with the expectation that they will be doing the kind of innovative work that attracts this kind of recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s recipients are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/research\/\">conducting research<\/a> in everything from quantum physics to using data to shape and enhance online education for a better student experience, especially among STEM disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>Competition for CAREER awards is stiff. The number of applicants varies but can have up to a couple of hundred depending on the discipline. Researchers at universities, nonprofit research groups and government agencies are eligible, and winners receive a minimum of $500,000 for five years.
