{"id":99496,"date":"2019-06-26T12:10:18","date_gmt":"2019-06-26T16:10:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/?p=99496"},"modified":"2019-07-08T16:27:53","modified_gmt":"2019-07-08T20:27:53","slug":"ucf-adds-six-new-officers-to-police-force","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/news\/ucf-adds-six-new-officers-to-police-force\/","title":{"rendered":"UCF Adds Six New Officers to Police Force"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Five of the six newest UCF Police officers who were sworn into service Tuesday have a connection to the University of Central Florida, and all have ties to the central Florida community.<\/p>\n<p>Before officially swearing-in the new officers in front of their family, friends and colleagues, UCFPD Chief <strong>Carl Metzger &#8217;03MS<\/strong> shared some words of wisdom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt takes a special kind of person to do this job, especially here on campus,\u201d Metzger says. \u201cProfessors can\u2019t teach, our students can\u2019t learn, they can\u2019t do research if they\u2019re not safe. And we bring that level of safety and comfort to them, so they don\u2019t have to worry about that. That\u2019s what we do every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new officers are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Jeffrey Hopkins<\/strong>, a former Seminole County Sheriff\u2019s Office dispatcher who is originally from Alabama<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tyrone Jackson \u201913<\/strong>, a former Orange County Corrections officer who earned his degree in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/degree\/criminal-justice-bs\/\">criminal justice<\/a> through <a href=\"https:\/\/directconnect.ucf.edu\/\">DirectConnect to UCF<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Arijeta Kavaja<\/strong><strong> \u201913<\/strong>, who previously worked with the Florida Highway Patrol and earned her degree in criminal justice through DirectConnect to UCF<\/li>\n<li><strong>Michael Maguire \u201915<\/strong>, a former UCFPD dispatcher who earned his degree in criminal justice<\/li>\n<li><strong>Yoan Rojas<\/strong>, a former UCFPD Community Service Officer (CSO) who was named CSO of the Year by the department in February<\/li>\n<li><strong>Allison Sienkiewicz \u201917<\/strong>, who previously interned at UCFPD in the Community Partnerships Unit and earned her degree in criminal justice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The six officers will continue their classroom training for the next several weeks before being paired with Field Training Officers to gain on-hands experience.
