UCF offers students several types of courses, referred to as course modes or modalities. When you register for classes, the course description includes a modality field that will identify the type of course.

The Course modalities available for UCF Online students are W (Web based) and V or VL (Video based). W classes are based on asynchronous instruction with a variety of activities. VL courses have attendance required at scheduled 2-way class meetings conducted online via Zoom or equivalent technologies. The V modality indicates that all video content is available on-demand at student convenience. In both video modalties, there will be class work required in UCF Webcourses.

These course modalities are displayed in the initial results table returned in a class search in my.ucf.edu.

Be sure to visit the Center of Distributed Learning’s page for the full definition and descriptions of all UCF course modality options.
