Claire Connolly Knox, Ph.D. is a Professor in the the Master of Emergency and Crisis Management Program in UCF’s School of Public Administration. Dr. Knox was awarded UCF\u2019s Excellence in Professional Service Award in 2018 and the Florida Emergency Preparedness Association\u2019s Gary Arnold Award in 2015. She is an expert in environmental vulnerability and disaster response, environmental policy and planning in coastal zones, scholarship of teaching and learning, and Habermas’ critical theory. Dr. Knox’s interdisciplinary research applies a discursive theory lens to language underlying environmental and emergency management plans and policies. She has analyzed multiple hurricanes including Andrew, Katrina, Sandy and Irma; Boston Marathon Bombing; 2016 Louisiana Flood; and coastal resilience planning in Louisiana and Florida. She teaches Disaster Response and Recovery, Environmental Planning and Policy, Environmental Policy and Management, and Managing Emergencies and Crises courses.
