BIOGRAPHY: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Ariadna joined the Coastal Risk & Engineering Lab (CoRE Lab) in Fall 2022 as a PhD Student. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and a Master’s Degree in Advanced Physics and Applied Mathematics (Specialization in Geophysical Fluids) from the University of Balearic Islands (Spain). During her undergraduate studies, she worked at the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA) researching the effect of extreme whether on coastlines, in terms of wind-waves and storm surges.<\/p>\n

RESEARCH: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Her research focuses on the temporal clustering of storm surge events and how these clusters modulate coastal impacts. The aim of her work is to identify global hotspots of clustering, assess how these patterns change over time, and explore connections to large-scale climate variability. As part of her PhD she has developed a new de-clustering method to automatically identify independent events in time series. She is also applying new statistical frameworks that explicitly account for spatiotemporal clustering in the frequency of storm surge events.<\/p>\n
