Begin Your Accessibility Review

Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT®) documents describe a product’s accessibility features, but their technical language can be difficult to interpret.

It’s not always clear which features work well, which could be refined, or which might present barriers for different users.

The VPAT Evaluator, developed by the University of Central Florida’s Center for Distributed Learning, simplifies these documents by providing clear, structured summaries or reports to help you assess accessibility effectively.

Why Use the VPAT Evaluator?

While a VPAT® contains essential details, they often present challenges:

  • Overly Technical Language – Uses specialized terminology without clear explanations.
  • Lack of Detail – Generalized statements that don’t offer practical insights.
  • Unclear Gaps – Terms like “partially supports” without defining actual limitations.
  • Difficult Comparisons – Inconsistent descriptions make side-by-side evaluations challenging.

The VPAT Evaluator helps by providing:

  • Plain Language Summaries – Simplifying technical details into plain language summaries.
  • Key Highlights Review – Highlighting key strengths and barriers for a clearer review.
  • Comprehensive Insights – Providing structured insights to compare accessibility information more effectively.

Who Should Use the VPAT Evaluator?

This tool is designed for professionals who need clear accessibility insights:

  • Educators and Academic Administrators – Ensure course materials and platforms support all learners.
  • Instructional Designers and Technologists – Align digital tools with institutional accessibility standards.

By transforming technical documentation into actionable insights, the VPAT Evaluator helps create more accessible learning environments.

How It Works

The VPAT Evaluator is a tool developed by the University of Central Florida’s Center for Distributed Learning to generate clear, easy-to-read accessibility reports.

Submit a VPAT® document for automated review.

  1. Register an account with a university email address ending in .edu
  2. Login to access the tool
  3. Drag and drop to upload a VPAT® pdf for automated review
The VPAT Evaluator analyzes the document and provides insights on:

  • Whether the report is clear and thorough or missing key information.
  • Who completed the VPAT® and whether the source is credible.
  • What accessibility features are included and where barriers might exist.
  • How these features affect users, including potential challenges for all learners.
The VPAT Evaluator provides a structured summary, helping you:

  • Identify strengths and opportunities to improve accessibility.
  • Compare products based on accessibility features.
  • Determine where more information or adjustments may be needed.

While the VPAT Evaluator provides a detailed review, final decisions must align with institutional policies and procurement guidelines.

Review with Confidence

The VPAT Evaluator helps assess accessibility based on WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 standards. While it provides structured insights, final decisions must be aligned with institutional policies and procurement requirements.
