Colleagues,
As shared yesterday, UCF will suspend normal operations Thursday due to Hurricane Helene. This entails suspension of all classes, assignments, and exams, including those online. We anticipate normal campus operations will resume at 6 a.m. on Friday.
Now is the time to thoughtfully prepare for storm conditions. Please take time to review your personal hurricane safety plans.
For all of us, supporting our students’ success in these circumstances is critical. Any assignments or exams planned for or due during the emergency closure must be postponed until we resume normal operations.
Please also remember that students may struggle due to impacts of the hurricane where they or their loved ones live. Your flexibility and understanding will make all the difference in helping our students stay on track for success.
As you prepare for the storm, this resource about campus safety and closures from FCTL is helpful.
Each department is responsible for taking protective actions to safeguard its people, research, and facilities. This checklist is a useful but not necessarily comprehensive guide. All critical research labs will remain accessible during the university’s closure.
Information will continue to be shared through UCF Alert, ucf.edu/hurricane, and social media.
I am grateful for your compassion for our students and each other during this time. Above all, please take care of yourselves and stay safe.
Provost Michael Johnson
