All first-time-in-college (FTIC) students are required to take the UCF Math Placement Test (MPT), and it should be completed before Orientation so your Academic Success Coach can help register you for the right courses. Even if you already earned college-level math credit through AP, IB, dual enrollment, or other accelerated programs, you still need to complete the MPT. Having a placement score on file is helpful since many students later change majors, and some degrees require higher-level math. Completing the test ensures you’re prepared for any academic path you choose. For Orientation purposes, only the Algebra practice test and Algebra test are required. Taking the MPT will not remove or replace any college-level math credit you already earned. There is no opt-out option but completing the MPT ahead of time make Orientation smoother and helps you get accurate course recommendations.
Some majors require additional exams such as the Chemistry Placement Test and the WebCAPE Spanish Placement Test. Review your Pre-Orientation content to determine which exams your major requires.
