Robots and their high-school student engineers will face off Friday, March 12, and Saturday, March 13, at the UCF Arena in a high-spirited, action-packed soccer match billed as the “NCAA of smarts.”

More than 2,000 students representing 54 teams from 11 states and Puerto Rico will showcase their engineering skills at the eighth-annual Florida FIRST Robotics Regional Competition, an event that combines the excitement of a sports competition with the intellect of a science fair.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is co-hosted by UCF and NASA Kennedy Space Center. The competition helps high school students discover the excitement of science, engineering, technology and math and the rewards that a STEM career can bring.
