Food and lifelong friendship are on the menu at this week’s Taste of Friendship fundraising event hosted by UCF’s Best Buddies chapter.
The 6th annual Taste of Friendship will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the Pegasus Ballroom of the Student Union and will feature a DJ, free food and the chance to win gift cards from local restaurants. Admission is free, but donations of any size are appreciated.
Best Buddies creates opportunities for one-on-one friendships, employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The nonprofit was founded in 1989 and has since grown to nearly 1,500 chapters worldwide.
Active on campus since 1992, UCF’s Best Buddies chapter pairs students with young adults with intellectual disabilities with the hope of enhancing their lives and giving them the chance to experience some of the same social activities as college students. Students connect with their buddies each week and meet for fun events several times each month.
Taste of Friendship is the organization’s largest event each year, and it helps to raise funds for and spread awareness of the organization.
