The Sophomore & Second Year Center conducted a highly successful inaugural student outreach event on April 14 called “Now’s the Time, Prepare for your Future.” A standing room crowd of 169 students attended this event to hear from and meet with various student-support resource offices to assist them with planning for their academic and professional future. Chanda Torres, assistant vice president for Student Development and Enrollment Services, provided students with motivating comments to open the program.

SSYC was joined by partners from Career Services, Experiential Learning, Pre-Health & Pre-Law Advising, International Studies (Study Abroad), LEAD Scholars Academy, and the Sophomore Ambassador Council. Event sponsor FAIRWINDS Credit Union connected with students on financial literacy as critical to their future success.

Food and prizes were offered to students for a festive atmosphere. Students gained valuable information from the participants in areas including advising services, career planning, internships, study abroad, leadership, and engagement with student organizations.

Students provided a 90 percent positive rating on the program, with one student stating:  “I learned that exploration, experience and ’employability’ are important; it’s about doing the extra that counts.”
