Florida’s Blood Centers has opened a permanent facility on the main campus of the University of Central Florida, making it the first full-time campus blood center in Florida.The new donor center, located behind Classroom Building 1, opened Aug. 24, said Florida’s Blood Centers spokesman Pat Michaels. The 3,240-square-foot facility, which was a UCF storage facility that was remodeled, employs five full-time employees and has six beds.

“Florida’s Blood Centers is honored to be a part of this first-of-its-kind donor center at a major university like UCF,” said Anne Chinoda, president and CEO, in a release.

Florida’s Blood Centers, based in Orlando, provides blood to more than 70 hospitals throughout the state.
