Hundreds of local fifth-graders will take their first steps on a college campus Tuesday, March 23.They’ll be visiting the University of Central Florida’s first-ever College Discovery Day – UCF’s largest effort to reach out to such a young population from underserved schools in Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties.

The fifth-graders will get a first-hand look at “cool” science projects, including animal bones, telescopes and computer animation while they take of tour of the campus.

Tuesday’s event will also reinforce President Obama’s “Educate to Innovate” campaign to improve the participation and performance of U.S. students in science, technology, engineering and math (also called STEM).
