The football team will follow suit and don black jerseys for Saturday’s contest. Special for Homecoming weekend, UCF will have a black uniform top with white numbers and gold trim accompanying its standard 2009 edition white helmets and pants.
The Knights are 19-10 all-time on Homecoming but 80-percent of those contests were in a black uniform that is more recognizable to alumni who may not know the players in those jerseys but knew that those were the beloved UCF Knights wearing them. UCF has worn gold jerseys for the past six seasons, but 25 out of 31 years overall have been spent in black home uniforms which will return for Saturday’s Homecoming contest.
It is a big game for the Knights who stand at 5-4 on the year and need one more win to gain bowl eligibility for the third time in five years. In their way stands No. 13/12 Houston who will pit its Conference USA-leading offense against UCF’s C-USA-leading defense in what is sure to be an exciting high-noon showdown.
