Updated 5:25 p.m. — The Biological Sciences building has been reopened after fire rescue crews deemed the building safe. The building had been evacuated around 2:30 p.m. while crews responded to reports of a suspicious odor.

Officials say they think the cause was a problem with the air handler, a part of the building’s ventilation system, which set off the smoke detector.

UCF Police and Orange County Fire Rescue arrived on scene. The Orange County Fire Rescue Hazmat Team investigated and determined the building was safe.

Emergency personnel reopened the building around 4:45 p.m. Classes were not impacted, as the university is on Spring Break this week.
