Elementary school students and their families will learn how to cook healthier meals and exercise around their busy schedules during a Nutrition and Obesity seminar Saturday, May 22.
Students enrolled in UCF’s Soldiers to Scholars program organized the seminar for at-risk youths whom they mentor and their families. The public is invited to attend the free event, which will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Metro Place Community Center, 1049 S. Kirkman Road, Orlando.
Dr. David Jones and Heather Parker-Jones will educate participants on how to reduce the risk of diabetes and other health problems by changing their diets without giving up food that tastes great. Seminar attendees will watch cooking demonstrations and learn how to cook healthy foods and modify recipes. They also will learn about basic kitchen safety.
