There will soon be another outlet for local bands, courtesy of a new TV channel and a familiar face on the Orlando scene.
Katie Ball – well known in music and cultural circles for her unflagging support of local arts as a contributor to WPRK, WMFE and NPR – has just embarked on a new adventure. She’s a producer at UCF TV, the new outlet for public television programming and locally produced fare based at the University of Central Florida and airing on Bright House’s channel 1.
Ball’s first project is launching a new music show that aims to combine interviews and performance footage into a multi-media version of Any Cool Music?, the Orlando band guidebook that she authored in 2004. The details are still coming together, as well as the production staff, but Ball is excited about the possibilities.
“Right now, we’re in the dreaming phase,” she says. “We’re really trying to get good people involved; people who have the technical skills and also are really passionate about music. We’re also making a wish list of bands and defining the concept.”
Interested bands can send music and press kits to Ball’s attention at UCF TV, 12443 Research Parkway, Suite 301, Orlando, FL 32826. There’s also a Facebook page (search “any cool music?”) for the show.
